Soul Woman Wednesday Jam

Alicia Keys has been my favorite artist since I can remember. My mom loves her, so I grew up listening to her.

I love this song specifically, however, because it is empowering to both women and men. Miss Keys understands who she is and that she is worth gold, and expects the same acknowledgment from whoever she decides to be with.

I find that a lot of young women today don’t realize their worth. They don’t realize that they shouldn’t put up with crap that they  don’t have to, men too. You should know how to treat a person and be with someone who knows how to treat you. Purpose. Fear. Success

The famous quote,  “Our deepest fear is not that we’re inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure” by Marianne Williamson, has had a huge quiver in my life both academically and socially.

I first encountered this quotation from the movie Akeelah and the Bee featuring  a well-known american actor, Keke Palmer, who happens to play the leading character Akeelah. I was in grade 9 and ever since, I’d read the poem before examinations and tests, for inspiration and hope of vanquishing fear.

The fear of achieving greatness is built-in our systems, it infringes our potentials in such a way we settle for anything that comes our way. We undermine and underestimate our true potentials based on race, family background in structure or finance and our current circumstances. We are petrified of being  ‘go getters‘ due to our thoughts  focusing more on failure and rejection, and less on success and prosperity.

But what are we scared of exactly? With many people I’ve come into interaction with, it is visibly clear that our utmost fear is the creature inside of us. We have ambition, we foresee the future with great vision yet fear still remains the distraction, the deceiver and in almost all battles fear defeats us.

We are at war with our own selves. To win this war we have to challenge ourselves to be conquerors. Put that vision into action. Allow ourselves to be rejected, to fall and to fail. Because, a strong warrior has scars and marks showing they’ve been to war and they have won their battle.
